Sciton BBL Hero in Richmond

Sciton BBL (Broad Band Light) treats skin concerns, including pigmented sun and age spots, broken blood vessels on the face, redness, and uneven skin tone. Sciton BBL can also be used to reduce and treat acne breakouts. When routine treatments are performed, Sciton BBL Hero helps build collagen in the skin and turns on genes that are active in younger, healthier skin.

How Does Sciton BBL HERO Work?

Sciton BBL Hero uses strong bursts of light to target pigmentation, broken blood vessels, and the bacteria that cause acne. When the bright light from BBL Hero targets areas of flat, unwanted pigmentation, the blemishes temporarily darken and then fade away in the coming days. When BBL Hero is used to target broken blood vessels, the light gently heats the unwanted blood vessels, causing them to shut down and fade away. Finally, BBL Hero uses energy in the blue-light spectrum to target the acne-causing bacteria Propionum acnes that live on the skin and in the oil glands. The result is an improvement in active acne lesions and fewer breakouts.

What Should I Expect at My Sciton BBL HERO Treatment?

The first and most important step in your laser journey is to set up a consultation where we will discuss your goals, lifestyle, and any health history or factors that could impact your laser treatment. Depending on your skin type and unique factors, a test spot may be performed in an inconspicuous area to test your skin’s reaction to the laser.

During Treatment

During the treatment, your skin will be cleansed. A cool gel is applied to the skin, and safety goggles or eye shields are worn at all times during your treatment. During the treatment, each pulse of the laser will look like a bright flash of light and feel like a hot rubber band snap. While it is common to feel some discomfort at times during the treatment, this should be a manageable level. It is important that you share your level of discomfort with your provider during treatment so that we can provide a safe, effective, and comfortable treatment.

After Treatment

Immediately after your treatment, it is normal for the skin to feel slightly warm or swollen, like a mild sunburn, but it should not hurt. BBL treatment is often referred to as the “lunch break treatment,” meaning you may be red and flushed, but you will be able to return back to work. In the coming days, you will notice that your existing brown spots will darken and fade away on their own. Do not try to speed up this process by exfoliating the skin. It is very important that you avoid strong sun exposure after your treatment and wear SPF 30 sunscreen or higher daily, reapplying every 2 hours when you are exposed to the sun.

What Are the Results and How Long Do They Last?

While BBL Hero is a very effective treatment for flat brown spots, broken blood vessels, generalized redness, and acne breakouts, the results are not permanent. Each of these conditions is considered chronic, meaning that your body will try to reform the brown spots, broken blood vessels, redness, and acne. One way to think about the BBL Hero is that it is a treatment for these conditions, but not a cure. Continued treatments should be performed to maintain results and help build collagen over time. Consistent use of sunscreen and a good skin care regimen can also slow the reformation of these blemishes.

Who Is a Good Candidate for BBL HERO?

The best candidates for Sciton BBL Hero have light to medium skin tones and are bothered by areas of uneven pigmentation, redness, broken capillaries, or acne. If you have a tan or have recently used sunless tanning products, your provider may suggest waiting until your skin tone is closer to its baseline to avoid over treatment and the rare risk of burns. Regular use of unscreen in the areas to be treated in the months prior to treatment is important to prevent these complications.
