Sciton Contour TRL in Richmond
The Sciton Contour TRL (Tunable Resurfacing Laser) is a highly customizable treatment that can range from a light, refreshing peel to deep laser resurfacing that treats lip lines, wrinkles, rough texture, uneven pigmentation, enlarged pores, acne scars, and other textural irregularities. Dr. Langelier is proud to provide patients in Richmond with professional Sciton Contour TRL treatment.
How Does Sciton Contour TRL Work?
Sciton Contour TRL is a highly specialized ablative erbium laser that removes layers of skin to precise depths. When the very surface layers are treated, the result is smoother skin and a healthy glow. When the skin is treated to medium depths, an improvement in pigmentation and fine lines is seen. Deep laser resurfacing with the Sciton Contour TRL is able to remove age spots, skin tags, and sun damage and create a dramatic improvement in lip lines and wrinkles. Deep laser resurfacing with Sciton Contour TRL is the strongest and most effective laser treatment offered by Dr. Langelier, who is one of the few surgeons in the area who provides this extensive level of treatment.

Am I A Good Candidate for Sciton Contour TRL?
The very first step in your laser treatment journey is a thorough consultation to review your health history, treatment goals, tolerance for downtime, and the post-laser care regimen. This consult is very informative and will help both you and our team ensure you are an appropriate candidate for laser resurfacing. Patients with a history of poor wound healing, a weak immune system, using blood thinners, certain skin conditions such as vitiligo or keloid scarring, and use of Accutane or similar drugs may not be good candidates for this treatment. It is important to protect your skin with sunscreen leading up to your laser treatment. If you arrive with a tan, we may not be able to perform your treatment. Patients with darker skin tones are at higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or darkening of the skin, and should have a thorough conversation about this risk with their laser team.
What Should I Expect at My Sciton Contour TRL Treatment
Langelier believes in the importance of patient education and preparation. During your Sciton Contour TRL laser consultation visit, her team will review how to prepare for your laser treatment, describe in detail how the laser treatment is performed, and review your after-laser care instructions. You will be provided with aftercare instructions and a list of items that you will need after laser treatment. Approximately one week before your treatment, our team will schedule a pre-treatment phone call to review instructions once again and ensure you are prepared for treatment.
On the day of your laser, please wear loose and comfortable clothing, come to your appointment with your face clean from makeup and lotions, and arrange for someone to drive you home.
The Treatment Process
Your skin will be cleansed and sanitized prior to your laser treatment. Sciton Contour TRL treatments that are more superficial (NanoLaserPeel and MicroLaserPeel) can often be performed comfortably with a topical numbing cream and cooling fan (Zimmer Chiller). For our patients having Contour TRL Deep Laser Resurfacing, our team will help you stay comfortable using a combination of comfort measures. First, topical numbing cream is applied. Your surgeon will also provide local anesthetic injections for additional comfort. A cooling fan is applied during treatment. An oral sedation medication can also be offered to help keep you relaxed and comfortable.
The laser treatment itself takes approximately 30-60 minutes. However, you should plan to spend up to 3 hours with our team to allow for preparation before and recovery after your laser treatment. At the completion of your treatment, a thick ointment will be applied to your skin. You will be asked to keep your skin covered in a thick layer of this ointment at home. You will return to our office the next day for your first post-laser checkup.
Follow-Up & Aftercare
Laser nurse Leisha will perform your first skin cleaning to remove old ointment and debris. She will review the aftercare instructions with you again and ask that you perform these cleaning procedures at home. If you receive deep laser resurfacing, you will return to our office a few times this first week to ensure healing is taking place as expected. We are with you every step of the way. Additional check-ins will be performed by phone or email.
Is There a Recovery Period
Patients may expect significant redness of the skin for 2 weeks with a residual pink tone that may last several months. Tinted sunscreen and makeup may be utilized after the first week of the healing process for most patients. Dr. Langelier will recommend specific products that are gentle and effective for this early healing period.
